The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) have urged the 23 newly registered political parties to avoid electoral offences.

The INEC and ECES made the call during the opening ceremony of the awareness training for the executives of the new 23 political parties holding at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS), Kuru in Jos.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Plateau state, Hussaini Halilu Pai advised the new political parties to be aware and avoid activities which would constitute electoral offences.

He said, “Some of the offences include multiple registration, under-age registration, impersonation and breach of public peace during campaigns,”

Mr. Pai also urged the new registered parties to formulate policy and vision for the country, to promote party ideals and to enlighten and mobilize their members to register.

In his speech, Project Director, European Centre for Electoral Support, (ECES), Mr. David Le Notre, said that the parties must be conversant with the rules and regulations guiding their operations as enunciated in the constitution, the electoral acts and other legal instruments.

Mr. Notre, who was represented by Isiaka Yahaya, said that the training would make the new political parties to be fully equipped and function effectively in the political system.
