The military through the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), in charge of security in Plateau State, Bauchi State and Southern Kaduna, has donated a number of projects to communities in Plateau state.

The projects include reconstruction of two blocks of five classrooms in Langai community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) and two boreholes in Nkindero and Gagaule communities of Bassa Local Government Area.

A health center with 30 beds was also donated to Tigi community in Riyom LGA.

Speaking at the commissioning of one of the projects in Bassa, the OPSH Commander, Major-General Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, said the gesture was aimed at reaching out to Plateau communities.

He said through the projects, they also aimed to deepen civil-military cooperation in the communities. “The Defence Headquarters embarked on some developmental projects in the host communities as part of Civil-Military Cooperation within OPSH operational areas. This is aimed at winning the hearts and minds of the people as well as giving back to the host communities,’’ Okonkwo said.

In his remarks, the Chief Civil-Military Cooperation, Rear Admiral Habila Ngalabak, said the effort would be sustained and urged the people to continue to live in peace with their neighbours.

The State Governor, Simon Lalong, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Security, Cornelius Shoalbial, urged the people to utilize the projects judiciously and shun violence.
