Over 200 farmers in Miago community, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday escaped death as the combined team of soldiers and policemen repelled an attack on them by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.
The Chairman of Miango Youths Development Association in the area, Mr Nuhu Nkali, told our correspondent on Tuesday that a riot policeman, identified as Abdul, was however not lucky, as he died following complications he suffered as a result of the shootout with the bandits.
The youth leader explained that some farmers were working on a community farm when over one 100 cows invaded the farm
He said, “The cattle were arrested by the military but few minutes later, the Fulani responded with guns targeted at over 200 youths, who were in the farm.
“All workers in the farm ran for their lives while the military engaged the Fulani in a gun battle for about 20 minutes.
“In the process, a mobile police officer was hit and rushed to the hospital. But this morning (Tuesday), he was confirmed dead.”
The mobile phone of the spokesman for the state police command, Ubah Ogaba, rang out and he did not respond to a text message sent to the phone.
