The personnel of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-security taskforce, saddled with the responsibility of restoring and maintaining peace in Plateau state, have conducted a clean-up in Jos metropolis.

Benue-Plateau Chronicle reports that the sanitation exercise was carried out along major roads starting from Plateau Hospital Round-About to Old Airport Junction and down to Rayfield community.

The exercise commenced at 7 a.m. and lasted till 1:30 p.m., under the supervision of the OPSH’s Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Mohammed Bello.

Brig.-Gen. Bello, while briefing journalists said the exercise was one of the non-kinetic approaches OPSH has employed to ensure that peace was sustained in the state.

“As you are all aware that the operation is conducting series of exercises to ensure that peace has come to Plateau. This symbolic clean-up is part of such exercises and we are going to do it step by step.”

General Bello also said the exercise was aimed at enhancing military/civil relationship, as well as to show that soldiers were conscious of their environment.

He said, “This exercise is going to continue and the main idea of the exercise is to ensure we win the hearts and minds of the people so they can know we are there for them.”

He urged the residents to give OPSH necessary co-operation to enable its personnel to discharge their duties.

Muhammad Abubakar, a Jos resident commended the operation for the clean-up.

“This is a welcome development and highly commendable,’’ he said.
