It was tears all over as Shitna’an Maimako, son of the vice chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Sabastine Maimako, was buried at the weekend in Quanpan local government area of Plateau State.
Shitna’an Maimako, a 25 year old final year student of Information Resource Management Department Babcok University and the second son of the Vice Chancellor died on Monday, at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) after a brief illness. This development has thrown the University of Jos, Babcok University community Ileshan Remo in Ogun State into mourning.
Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong and his Benue state counterpart Samuel Ortom were represented at his burial, held at the deceased home town, Baking Ciyawa, Qua’anpan local government area of Plateau State, about 250 kilometers away from the state capital Jos.
Lalong represented by the speaker Plateau State House of Assembly Hon Joshua Madaki, said the loss of Shitna’an was a loss for the entire state, not just that of the Maimako family.
Similarly, Benue State governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom who spoke at the Requiem Mass held at St Mary’s Catholic Church Baking Ciyawa through Prof Tor Iorapuu, reiterated that the death of late Shitna’an was a loss to the entire North Central people.
Dr. Ortom on behalf of government and the good people of Benue state commiserated with Plateau State government and the entire family of late Shitna’an, and prayed for the repose of his soul.
The Christian burial rite of late Shitna’an was a gathering of who is who in the education sector, as most heads of higher institutions were present at the funeral.
