Connected Development (CODE) – a non-governmental organization, whose mission is to improve access to information and empower local communities in Africa has called on youth of Plateau state to track government budgets and spending of money on projects executing by the state government.

The group made the call through its Manager, Community Engagement, Mr Busayo Morakinyo during One-day Training on Data Collection, Analysis & Dissemination; and Monitoring & Evaluation on education/health for Secretaries of Local Government Areas of the state at Jos Business School on Wednesday.

Mr Morakinyo said it became imperative and necessary for the Plateau youth to join Follow the Money initiative of the organization in order to track government and international aid spending in rural communities to ensure and promote open government and service delivery.

He said, “We connect citizens to capital projects in their communities and link them up with key government and private sector stakeholders who implement these projects, for enhanced service delivery. Such projects cut across the sectors of health, education and environment, specifically Water, Sanitation & Hygiene.

He added that youth participation in following the government spending would fight corruption, close transparency deficit and would improve government response to citizens’ demands.
