The Plateau State Police Command says it has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers of the Long Dorok in Shendam Local Government Area of the state, David Dongbam.

The second class traditional chief was abducted by unknown gunmen on Monday night.

The gunmen were said to have stormed his palace around 8pm and whisked him away to an unknown destination while shooting sporadically into the air to scare villagers away as they made their escape.

The police, which confirmed the development in a statement in Jos on Tuesday, however, said that a search and rescue team had been formed by the command to apprehend the perpetrators and free the monarch.

The command’s spokesperson, Mathias Tyopev, who signed the statement, said, “On November 19, 2018, at about 10pm, the Plateau State Police Command, Jos, received an information that unknown gunmen stormed the residence of the Long Dorok, David Isah Dongbam, the second class chief of the Dorok Kingdom of Shendam Local Government Area, Plateau State, and kidnapped him to an unknown destination.

“After the receipt of the information, the command immediately formed a search and rescue team, which is working assiduously to rescue the paramount ruler unhurt. The command shall update members of the public as soon as new information crops.”
